LONDON NEW NAMES: Bringing some Cali soul across the waters is THE INTERNET; the six piece known for a trademark blend of hybrid soul and RnB. Expect jazz-tinged, funk and neo soul feels resonating through Printworks as Syd and co take to the stage. Rising star KIAH VICTORIA will join; a breakout singer-songwriter whose sound is assertive, emotional soul, and a live act that that shouldn’t be missed. On top of that, Nottingham’s LIAM BAILEY is set for AFROPUNK’s second outing, with bluesy, reggae influenced RnB. Plus, LA garage-punk band THE BOTS will bring an infectious, feral energy to London for what promises to be standout show from the massive line up. All this on top of LIANNE LA HAVAS, NAO, THUNDERCAT, DANNY BROWN, JME, WILLOW SMITH, JAZZ RE:FRESHED, GAL-DEM DJs, BORN N BREAD and more. Full day splits are here too, detailed below.

SPINFTHRIFT MARKET: Arts, crafts, tattoos, clothes and more; it’s all to discover in the SPINTHRIFT MARKET, which will span collections of home-made trinkets, self-made art, all hand-crafted with love by the AFROPUNK traders and vendors. Some to check include Jamaican inspired lifestyle brand Uptown Yardie, African bags, jewelry and accessory kings Funky N Chunky, and stunning ornate accessories from Teah Wilson. Also essential to visit is Continent Clothing for socially conscious clothes crafted in Africa to support the local economy, and United80; Brixton based cultural project.

BATTLE OF THE BANDS: Community is key for AFROPUNK; and 2017 see the introduction of BATTLE OF THE BANDS, a contest in collaboration Soundcloud and The Roundhouse to develop key breakout local talents. London’s ‘next-big-things’ battle it out online to secure a four day long programme of tuition from industry experts; ranging from studio time to advice on PR, marketing and social media, and the opportunity to play at London’s very own AFROPUNK 2017. APPLY FOR THE BATTLE OF THE BANDS HERE.

WE THE PEOPLE: As AFROPUNK expands further with the first outing in Johannesburg, South Africa, the theme for 2017 is WE THE PEOPLE; a phrase that begins both the American and South African constitutions. The move to Johannesburg is a natural fit in line with AFROPUNK’s desire to connect through Dispora; creating bonds between those with a shared mindset. From the neighborhoods of New York, through to U.S. and Europe, and now in yet another continent, this AFROPUNK mindset is less concerned with genres and pigeonholes than the strength and unity of otherness. Modern South Africa is proof of the victory of otherness over historical precedent, and of the country's desire to mold a society based on virtues that are at the core of AFROPUNK. Check the full WE THE PEOPLE statement from AFROPUNK below.
